For several months, I have been researching everything related to the world of digital marketing as applied to musicians and art in general. Although many concomitances exist with other sectors, there are clearly many specific reasons for doing things differently or applying them with subtle differences that help us to position ourselves better in our area.
The first thing I discovered is how poorly I was benefiting from my presence on social networks and the little advantage that I had taken from all the information I possess and which could be extremely useful for many other colleagues. I also realised that I could also help others avoid making the same mistakes I had through a lack of knowledge. That I could accompany those starting their journey in this new artistic world transformed by the pandemic we have experienced and of whose new normality we shall all be architects. For this reason, rather than lose hope, it is better to prepare. Preparing means to recognise and know by using all the tools at our disposal, in order to communicate our creation and, above all, to learn and create monetizable environments. It is also very important to know how to share with our fans the formulas that help us build our own cultural industry. Just as there are large multinational companies throughout sectors and small and medium-sized enterprises that co-exist with them, we can become our own small business, co-existing with the large multi-nationals of our sector or large delivery platforms. The digital world is immense and if we can do it well, we can find the space that enables us to live from our work.
We have to understand that the world of “Make Yourself” is going to be our battlefield and the more we know what our weapons are, the more opportunities we have to emerge triumphant. So, I would urge you to stop being lazy and get down to work! You may never have worried about these things, because you were already busy composing, writing your lyrics, singing your songs, recording and, on top of all that, publicising your events and your new works through networks. Well, that was in the pre-COVID19 world: now you have to do much more if you want to continue to live from your music and your theatrical works.
If you are prepared to do your part and dedicate a little to all these tools, I would be delighted to tell you what they are and explain how to begin using them.
